PLACEMENT TRAINING

FIRST YEAR

Students must be introduced to the professional nature of their chosen course during their first year of the Bachelor of Engineering program. Students must break out of the high school mold that has been imposed on them their entire lives and become professionals in a college setting. It is necessary to use orientation programs that place a strong emphasis on students' social, ethical, moral, and professional behavior to effect the necessary change in students as they make the transition from high school to college.

Typically lack language skills in English because of their upbringing or lack of instruction, especially if they come from underprivileged or rural backgrounds. Through special language classes tailored to the requirements of professional engineers, this must be remedied.

Since logic and reason are the building blocks of engineering, students should be introduced to the fundamental rules of logical reasoning and how they apply to the four years of engineering coursework they will be taking in college.

SECOND YEAR

Students need to understand the fundamentals and theories of their field at this point in order to get past the initial phase of their linguistic training that emphasizes communication rather than language skills. The key in this situation is to combine linguistic competence with communication skills.

Making that change requires proper training. An example of a logical progression to developing communication skills is obtaining a business English certificate.

A second-year student's professional development needs include a higher emotional level or intelligence. Students should be offered personality development programs to better face the demands of professional school and their future careers in the field.

Industry visits and in-plant training along with industry experience is the need of the hour.

THIRD YEAR

The Pre – Final year is a year of placement training during which students improve their oral and written communication skills, as well as their ability to conduct group discussions, interviews and application writing.

Students receive extensive training to learn tips and tricks for answering competency-based interview questions, appreciate the finer points of building a strong resume, meet professional dress requirements through appropriate attire, and present their personalities with confidence and persuasiveness.

FOURTH YEAR

Interview facing skills, Resume building skills, soft skills training, mock interviews, stress management.
